Topolino’s Terrace Gluten Free Breakfast Review
*This experience was during COVID-19, so menu offerings and experiences may be different in the future*
Topolino’s Terrace is located on the tenth floor of Disney’s Riviera Resort. Only the East elevators (The ones on the left of the resort looking from the front) go up to the restaurant. When you enter in the lobby of the resort, go left at Le Petit Cafe down the hallway. Turn right at the pretty Cinderella Castle painting, shown below. The elevators will be on your right.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we checked in on our phone and had our temperatures screened. We were then invited in to stand and wait in the bar area. We had an awesome view while we waited. We could see Hollywood Studios, Swan and Dolphin, Animal Kingdom, and parts of Epcot.
After we were seated, the waiter mentioned the allergy on our ticket and I informed him of my gluten intolerance. He confirmed that it was just me (not Nick) that needed to eat gluten free and then said he’d bring a gluten free pail and a regular pail.
The “pails” are pails of pastries, and they’re awesome. They look like paint pails and the non gluten free one came on a “palette” with butter and jam as “paint”.
The gluten free pail had two donuts, one frosted and one cinnamon, and a blueberry muffin. The donuts were Kinnikinnick brand and were delicious. The muffin was also really good- I normally don’t like fruit in my pastries, but it was really tasty. You can ask for more if you want, but I found that what they gave me was enough for me, as I didn’t want to spoil my breakfast.
POG (passion fruit, orange, and guava) juice is also available here and is included in the price of breakfast.
The breakfast menu has some pretty different breakfast offerings compared to other breakfasts around Disney property.
Additionally, there is another option that is not listed on the Allergy breakfast menu. They have a gluten free Mickey waffle. It is huge, and it is delicious. It could be a meal in and of itself (especially if you fill up on those yummy pastries!), but I wanted something more. I ordered the waffle and the Two Eggs Breakfast, but without the eggs (not a huge fan of eggs for breakfast).
So essentially I ordered the waffle with breakfast potatoes and bacon. The waffle was delicious, it was moist and not crunchy at all. The whipped butter (came on the side) and syrup both had hints of citrus, so if you’re not a huge citrus fan, I’d stay away from the syrup and butter. The breakfast potatoes were so good. Best breakfast potatoes I’ve had on property. Maybe it’s because they aren’t made for a buffet and they’re cooked to order, but they were delicious. They did have onions in with them, but they were pretty easy to avoid if you’re not a fan of onions. And the bacon was good as well.
Since this was during COVID-19, the characters were not meeting at each table, but they did still come out and stand at central locations in the room and wave from a distance. I will say that they did a great job of looking at and interacting with each table, it felt very personal. So if you have a kiddo that wants to see Minnie or Mickey (or Donald and Daisy) while on vacation, this is a good way for them to get to see their favorite characters. After each character came out on their own, they had a “dance party” where the characters all paraded around the room to music.
We received our bill, and I was happy to see we were not charged extra for the gluten free mickey waffle. I essentially received parts of two entrees for no extra cost. (The cost was $42 per adult, I’m not sure if these are COVID-19 prices since it’s a modified character experience).
Since the characters are not signing autographs right now, our waiter handed us a postcard that had all of their signatures on it and a cute picture of them in their outfits on the back.
After breakfast, we stepped outside on the terrace and enjoyed the amazing view. I would really recommend making sure you step outside after your meal to take in the view. You can see multiple resorts, the Skyliner, and parts of three parks!
They also have plushes of the characters in their outfits for sale both at the restaurant and at the gift shop in the lobby of the hotel.
Overall, I really enjoyed our experience at Topolino’s Terrace for breakfast. Even though it was during COVID-19 and it was a modified character experience, I loved breakfast. I really liked that I could customize the meal to get exactly what I wanted, which made it worth the price for me. The pastries before the meal were also delicious, and it’s always nice when there’s a gluten free option that’s not just a slice of bread.
