Raglan Road Gluten Free Dinner Review
*This review was written during COVID-19, dining experiences may vary in the future*
Last Friday (July 3rd), we went to Disney Springs to try out Raglan Road. Raglan Road is an Irish restaurant in The Landing section of Disney Springs, right around the corner from Wine Bar George. At check-in, the hostess took our phone number and then we went outside to wait for a text that our table was ready. There were cute markers on the ground telling us where to stand when we were in line at the check-in table, so that we stayed 6 feet apart from the other groups.
We were seated in a section of the restaurant that did not have a view of the stage, so we could not see the dancers from our table. I did get up and stand by the bar for a bit to see the dancers, they’re incredible! I know during non-COVID-19 times, they will bring up kids on the stage to dance with them, but I’m pretty sure that’s not happening right now. When the hostess seated us, she told us the menu was all online, and there was a QR code to scan on our phones to pull up the menu. I asked about a gluten free menu and she said 80% of the menu could be made gluten free.
When our server came, he asked about any allergies and I said gluten. I asked what I could have and he asked what I wanted. I told him the risotto and he said they could do it gluten free. I also ordered some gluten free onion rings as a side. I was told by the hostess that the onion rings were cooked in a designated gluten free fryer, but the menu does say they cannot guarantee there will be no cross-contamination, so I would double check with a chef or manager if you are sensitive to cross-contamination.
My Raglan Risotto was amazing. It had rice in a pesto sauce, with tomatoes and onions on top, and there were little asparagus throughout the rice as well. It was a very nice meal to have on a hot day because it was tasty, but not super rich, so I didn’t feel weighed down by it.
Confession time: I’ve never tried an onion ring before. As a kid I hated onions, so I wouldn’t eat them (despite my dad’s bribes), and by the time I had realized they were okay, I had discovered my gluten intolerance and it’s really hard to find gluten free onion rings.
I have nothing to compare them to, but the onion rings were really good! They were a little greasy, but I’m pretty sure that’s what all fried food is like.
We also shared a flourless chocolate cake (with the berries on the side). It was $10, and a was just a plain chocolate cake. It was good, but probably not worth the price.
I had a fabulous experience at Raglan Road in Disney Springs. I really liked having the freedom to basically order whatever I wanted, and the dishes I picked were super tasty. I would not get the flourless chocolate cake again though just because I can get something similar for cheaper somewhere else.
If you want to see the dancers from your table, make sure to request a table in the main dining room with a view of the stage, because not all tables can see the stage. But even if you can’t see the stage, the music is played throughout the restaurant and the ambiance is very lively.
