Universal Florida Basics: Part 3: Islands of Adventure Rides

Starting at the front of the park and working clockwise, here are all of the rides at Islands of Adventure.

The Incredible Hulk

  • Minimum Height 54″ (137.1 cm)
  • Express Pass accepted
  • All items must go in a locker

The Incredible Hulk is a roller-coaster with at least 5 inversions. It is intense and so much fun. You will have to go through a metal detector before riding, so all personal items, cell phones and keys included, will need to go in a locker.

Storm Force Accelatron

  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

Storm Force Accelatron is not open currently since The Incredible Hulk uses part of the queue as its queue. It is a “Teacups” type ride where you sit in a vehicle and can spin a wheel to make it spin faster.

Dr. Doom’s Fearfall

  • Minimum Height 52″ (132.0 cm)
  • Express Pass accepted

Dr. Doom’s is a freefall ride. The line can get kind of long since only a few people can ride at once, but is a fun ride if the wait is short. You will get an awesome view for miles no matter which direction you face. Your personal items will go in a cubby in the loading area before you get on the ride, this area isn’t open to other guests, so it will be safe.

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

  • Minimum Height 40″ (101.6 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is a 3-D ride very similar to Transformers over at Universal Studios. You sit in a car-like vehicle and follow Spider-Man around as he defeats villains. This ride does move around a lot and you will wear 3-D glasses. There are screens and real props, and this ride can cause motion sickness.

Popeyes and Blutos Bilge-Rat Barges

  • Minimum Height 42″ (106.7 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted
  • Paid lockers available

Popeye & Bluto’s is a water ride in a circular raft. You will get wet on this ride. There are paid lockers available for your personal items if you don’t want them to get wet.

Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls

  • Minimum Height 44″ (111.8 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted
  • Paid lockers available

Ripsaw Falls is a flume type water ride with a giant drop at the end. You will get very wet. There are paid lockers available for your personal items if you don’t want them to get wet.

Skull Island Reign of Kong

  • Minimum Height 36″ (92 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

Skull Island Reign of Kong is a simulator type ride that starts outside in a safari type vehicle that then goes inside. It has a wrap around simulator room that can cause motion sickness, and it can be scary for kids.

Pteranondon Flyers

  • Minimum Height 36″ (92 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Guests over 56” tall must be accompanied by a rider meeting the 36” height requirement.

Pteranondon Flyers is a gliding flying ride for kids. In fact, if you don’t have a kid under 56″ tall with you, you can’t ride this ride. You can get beautiful views of the park from this ride, and it’s a perfect gentle ride for kids.

Jurassic Park River Adventure

  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Minimum Height 42″ (106.7 cm)
  • Express Pass accepted
  • Paid lockers available

Jurassic Park River Adventure is a tour of Jurassic Park on a boat that takes an unexpected turn, ending with a 85 foot drop. You will get wet, but not as wet as the other water rides in the park. You can pay to put your items in a locker, but if you put them at your feet they won’t get that wet.

The Jurassic World VelociCoaster

Opening June 10, 2021

  • Minimum Height 51″
  • All Items must go in a locker

The VelociCoaster is an epic roller-coaster themed to Jurassic World. On this ride, you’ll race with raptors over land and water. It looks awesome and I cannot wait for it to open.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

  • Minimum Height 48″ (121.9 cm)
  • Express Pass accepted
  • Personal Items must go in a locker

Forbidden Journey is the ride inside the Hogwarts Castle. It’s worth just going through the queue if you’re a Harry Potter fan. You’ll join Harry and friends on a flying ride around Hogwarts grounds. This ride combines screens and animatronics and can affect people with motion sickness.

Flight of the Hippogriff

  • Minimum Height 36″ (92 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

Flight of the Hippogriff is a kiddie coaster located in Hogsmeade. It’s actually a lot fun and goes pretty fast, but it’s a very short ride. You can also get a fantastic view of Hogwarts from this ride!

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

  • Minimum Height 48” (121.9 cm)
  • Express Pass accepted
  • Personal Items must go in a locker

Hagrid’s is an awesome roller-coaster that puts you in one of Hagrid’s Care of Magical Creatures classes, with quite a few mishaps. This coaster is my favorite (for now, until the VelociCoaster opens) roller-coaster ever. This ride has a virtual queue quite often, you can read my tips for getting to ride this awesome ride here.

Hogwarts Express

  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted
  • Park-to-Park Ticket or Annual Pass required

The Hogwarts Express is the train that runs between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. A Park-to-Park ticket or Annual Pass is required as you will have your ticket scanned before boarding the train. Be sure to ride the train both ways as it’s different each way!

Poseidon’s Fury

  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

Poseidon’s Fury is not currently open, but it is a walk through visual effects type show. It is in the Lost Continent area of the park.

The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride!

  • Minimum Height 36″ (92 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

The Seuss Trolley Train ride is on an elevated track above Seuss Landing. It is a gentle ride around the area, and offers great views of Islands of Adventure. It is up kind of high, so if you’re afraid of heights, it might not be the ride for you.

Caro-Seuss-El

  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

Caro-Seuss-el is a carousel that is themed with Dr. Seuss animals.

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish is a “Dumbo” type ride that spins in a circle. It is interactive with water fountains and musical directions, making it a fun ride for anyone!

The Cat in the Hat

  • Minimum Height 36″ (92 cm)
  • Under 48″ (121.9cm): Supervising Companion Required
  • Express Pass accepted

The Cat in the Hat is a dark ride that follows the story of The Cat in the Hat. It does have a small bit of spinning, but other than that it’s a very tame ride.
