What is a Ruby Pass at Universal Orlando?
Universal Orlando utilizes Express Passes to shorten wait times for guests that have Express Passes. (You can read all about Express Passes in this blog post). However, there are certain rides that don’t take Express Passes. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Pteranodon Fliers, The Bourne Stuntacular, and Velocicoaster do not allow the use of Express Passes.
HOWEVER, there are certain passes, called Ruby Passes, that do allow you to go through a special line at Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. These passes do not apply to Pteranodon Fliers, Velocicoaster, or The Bourne Stuntacular.
What is a Ruby pass?
A Ruby pass is a paper pass that is about the size of a business card. It is red on one side (hence the name Ruby) with the Universal logo in gold. On the other side is the barcode, expiration date, and other information about the pass.
When are these passes given out?
Usually, Ruby passes are given out if the ride breaks down while you’re on it. We once got stopped on the ride for about 10 minutes (it then started back up and we finished the ride) and as we exited, we were all given Ruby passes. Occasionally, I have heard stories of Team Members (Universal Employees) giving out Ruby passes just to add some extra magic to guests’ day, but I’ve personally never seen this or had it happen to me.
What do I do if I’m given a Ruby pass?
First, check the expiration date! If it expires that day, make sure you use it, if it expires later, make sure you’ll be back to use it during that timeframe. If you don’t want to ride again for whatever reason, and won’t be back in time to use the pass, give it to someone else. There’s no use in hanging on to it if you’re not going to use it, so spread the magic!
If you do plan on using it, head straight to the Hagrid’s entrance. Show the Team Member that you have the Ruby pass, and let them check the date on it. They will then let you into the side of the line that is chained off. You will then follow that line (you’ll probably be the only one in the line!) into a dark tunnel, where the Team Member will then scan your pass, take it, and let you back into the regular line. From there, you maybe have a 5 minute wait until you board the ride.
Does Velociocaster have a Ruby pass?
Velociocaster has a version of the Ruby pass that’s a light “Icy Blue” color. These are extremely rare and only given out in cases of extreme delays with the ride. These passes cannot be used for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Pteranodon Fliers, and The Bourne Stuntacular.
